The Civic Hybrid is all about a car that barely sips fuel yet is a genuine joy to drive. At low speeds the engine shuts off and you glide along on electric power in complete silence; when you accelerate, the petrol engine kicks in smoothly, without a jolt. Real-world consumption is 4–5 litres in mixed driving — over two weeks you'll fill up maybe twice. Inside it feels like an expensive car: soft-touch plastics, a digital instrument cluster, and proper multimedia with phone support. It suits a couple or a solo traveller who covers plenty of ground between beaches and doesn't want to stop for fuel every other day. Perfect for everyday island trips and runs to Krabi or Phang Nga.
You feel the hybrid's magic most in Patong's traffic jams and at Phuket Town's lights: while the cars around you idle and burn fuel, the Civic sits in silence on electric power, with the air-con still blowing cold. Out on the highway the picture flips — here the lively petrol engine does the work, overtaking on the 402 takes no effort, and the taut suspension inspires confidence at speed. That said, the sedan's low ground clearance is worth keeping in mind: skip the dirt turn-off to a wild beach or the deep puddle after a tropical downpour — that's what the crossovers in our fleet are for.
The Civic's boot is generous for the class — two large suitcases and backpacks fit with ease, plenty of room for a couple on a two-week holiday. Two adults sit comfortably in the back even on the long run to Krabi. This is the car for people who drive a lot and watch their fuel spend but aren't willing to trade comfort for savings — the typical renter tours the island every day, heads out to the far-flung beaches, and hands the car back having spent laughably little on petrol. And here's the hybrid's nice bonus: the more city driving your route involves, the bigger your savings versus an ordinary petrol sedan.
Please note: child seats and accessories are not included in the rental price and are provided for an additional fee — please check availability when booking.
Reviews
The hybrid drivetrain is the point. A week of daily driving across the island cost about a tank and a half. In stop-start traffic on Chao Fa it barely uses the engine at all.
Rented for a month while working remotely from Rawai. Quiet cabin, comfortable seat, and the car never once gave us a reason to call anyone. Monthly rate was well under what daily taxis would have cost.
Quick and refined, but it sits low, so the speed bumps in residential sois need respect. Not a problem, just a habit you pick up in a day.
Quoted price matched the final invoice exactly — rental, insurance, airport delivery, deposit. No surprise line items at pickup, which sadly is not the norm in this market.
Did the Phang Nga day trip, around 300 km. Cruise control, low road noise, cold air-con the whole way. Two people plus large cases fit easily.
Car arrived clean and fully charged and fuelled, and the return took ten minutes at the airport car park. Simple, professional, no drama.
