The Honda Jazz is a city workhorse. Small on the outside, surprisingly roomy inside: the rear seats fold flat to the floor, and in goes a surfboard, a bicycle or a couple of big bags after a shopping run. The turning circle is tiny, so it parks in any gap. Fuel use is modest, the engine is peppy, and it holds 100 km/h with ease on the highway. It's one of the cheapest options in the fleet — but far from clapped-out; it drives smoothly and without surprises. It gets rented by solo travellers, couples for a couple of days, and sometimes as a second car when a big group arrives. Suited to the city and to the paved parts of the island.

The Jazz's trump card is Honda's legendary Magic Seat system: the rear seats drop perfectly flat, turning a tiny hatchback into something close to a little van. For surfers it's a find — a board up to six feet slides in diagonally, no fiddling with roof racks. After a market or supermarket haul, all your shopping fits without playing Tetris. And the car still stays compact enough on the outside to squeeze into any Patong parking spot.

On multimedia and gadgets the Jazz is simpler than the larger models — don't expect a big touchscreen or a surround-view camera; here everything is plain and dependable. In return, the price is among the lowest in the fleet, and Hondas run trouble-free. The ground clearance is low, so give dirt tracks and deep rainy-season puddles a wide berth — this is a pure tarmac car. The ideal renter: a solo traveller or couple on a short rental who value low cost, economy and cargo space over gadgets and gloss.

Please note: child seats and accessories are not included in the rental price and are provided for an additional fee — please check availability when booking.

Reviews

Cheap to run, easy to park, and quick enough for island roads. A week of daily beach trips cost us less in fuel than one taxi to the airport.

The rear seats fold in a clever way and we fitted two large suitcases plus a Makro shop. For a hatchback this size, genuinely impressive.

Not a new car and there are a few scuffs on the bumper, but every one of them was photographed and logged before we signed. Mechanically it was faultless.

First rental in Thailand and everything was explained by message beforehand: licence requirements, deposit, what to do in an accident. Delivered to Kamala, collected from the same spot.

Monthly rental for commuting into Phuket Town. Thirty days, zero problems, and the only cost after the rate was fuel.

Small outside, surprisingly roomy inside — two adults in the back were comfortable on the drive to Promthep. Passing scooters in narrow sois is stress-free.
