The GWM Haval Jolion Hybrid is a 2023 hybrid crossover from Great Wall Motors (GWM), a Chinese brand that has been rapidly gaining ground in Thailand since 2021 and already has a growing service network on the island. Its 1.5-litre hybrid powertrain combines a petrol engine with an electric motor and automatic transmission, delivering noticeably lower fuel consumption — around 4–5 litres per 100 km in mixed driving, roughly half what a comparable petrol-only crossover would use. The bold, contemporary design with sharp light graphics makes the Jolion stand out among more conservative rivals, and inside it offers a large touchscreen, climate control, a digital instrument cluster and a rear-view camera. The main advantage of the Jolion Hybrid over a conventional petrol crossover is efficiency without sacrificing performance. The result is noticeably lower fuel consumption over a full trip than a Kia Seltos or MG ZS of similar size, without any real loss in responsiveness.
The cabin feels modern and tech-forward, with a large screen, tidy ergonomics and enough rear legroom for two adults. One thing to note is that GWM is less established on the island than Korean or Japanese brands, so servicing infrastructure, while growing quickly alongside the brand's popularity, isn't quite as ubiquitous yet. The typical renter is a traveller or couple curious about newer technology who wants to try a hybrid powertrain firsthand while saving on fuel during active island touring.

Wanted to try something different from the usual Toyota and don't regret it — fuel consumption over ten days averaged about 4.5 litres, a real saving.
Delivered to our place in Rawai exactly on time, checkout was quick. The hybrid pulls smoothly in city traffic, you can feel the electric motor taking the strain off at traffic lights.
GWM service isn't as widespread on the island as Toyota's, but the manager gave us a contact number just in case. The car itself was great — modern cabin, big screen.
Deposit was back on the card the same day, no delays. Fuel use pleasantly surprised us — almost half what we used on the petrol crossover we had last time.
Drove to Kamala beach and back every day — the hybrid has plenty of pep, and the electric motor noticeably helps the engine on the way back uphill.
The hybrid's fuel economy was a pleasant surprise — we filled up way less often than expected. Acceleration is smooth, took us just a day to get used to it.
