The Honda HR-V is a compact 2023 urban crossover for anyone who wants the higher seating position and view of a crossover without the size and fuel bill of something bigger. The 1.5-litre petrol engine with an automatic gearbox sips fuel economically, and the raised driving position gives a clearer view of the road than a regular hatchback — a real help on Patong's busy streets and in Old Town's narrow lanes. The compact footprint makes parking at hotels and in tight courtyards easy, where a larger crossover would need several attempts. The HR-V suits a couple or small family who want a crossover for their holiday without paying extra for the size and thirst of something like the CR-V.
What separates the HR-V from a compact hatchback like the Yaris is its higher seating position and clearer view of the road; what separates it from a bigger crossover like the CR-V is its compact size and economy. It sits right in the middle — a raised driving position adds confidence and visibility, while the compact body stays easy to park in Patong, Kata, and Old Town, where every extra centimetre of length makes manoeuvring harder.
Inside there's enough room for two passengers and a moderate amount of luggage, with modern infotainment and air conditioning keeping things comfortable in Thailand's heat. The trade-off is that the back seat and boot are sized for a couple with suitcases rather than a big family with a mountain of gear, and anyone planning to head off onto dirt roads would be better served by a four-wheel-drive SUV. The typical renter is a couple or small family for 5–12 days who values easy city manoeuvring, economical fuel use, and crossover seating without paying for extra size.
Please note: child seats and other accessories are not included in the rental price and are provided for an extra fee — please check availability when booking.
Reviews
Perfect car for Patong — parks without any fuss where a bigger crossover would need several attempts.
The raised seating really helps — visibility is so much better than in a hatchback, felt more confident in traffic.
Fuel economy pleasantly surprised me for a crossover. Boot's on the small side but plenty for the two of us.
Compared it to the CR-V but went with the HR-V — didn't need that much size and didn't want to pay extra for it. Covered everything we needed.
Delivered right on time to Old Town, deposit returned promptly at drop-off. Very manoeuvrable — narrow streets were never an issue.
Perfect for two around town — fits into any gap near the restaurants on Bangla, fuel use is minimal.
