The Toyota Yaris Hatchback is a compact city hatchback from 2024 and one of the most sensible cars for a couple or solo traveller. Low fuel use (5–6 litres per 100 km), powerful air-con for +35°C heat, brisk acceleration and a tiny turning circle make the Yaris Hatchback ideal for the narrow lanes of Phuket Town, Patong's car parks and trips to Karon, Kata and Rawai beaches. There's room for two adults and a couple of suitcases; two more passengers fit in the back for short hops. The folding rear row lets you carry a surfboard, a bicycle or several big bags after a shopping run at Central Festival. On the highway it confidently holds 100–110 km/h, with effortless overtakes. The economical 1.2 petrol engine and automatic transmission are the value-for-comfort sweet spot for a 5–10 day rental.
What sets the hatchback apart from the Yaris Ativ sedan is above all the practicality of its rear end: the short body makes the car even nippier in the city, and the folding rear row turns a compact car into a mini van, taking a surfboard, a bicycle or a pile of gear after a shopping trip. For a solo traveller or couple who value ease in the old town's tight lanes and the ability to carry oversized loads, it's a very logical choice.
Its character is all honest for the class: the 1.2 engine is economical and lively in the city, but not powerful — for a long overtake or an uphill climb with passengers, plan your acceleration ahead. The low ground clearance means it's best to drive around dirt tracks to wild beaches and deep puddles after a tropical downpour — this is a pure tarmac car. But in Phuket's city rhythm it has almost no equal: a tiny turning circle, easy parking in any gap and minimal fuel use make daily beach trips carefree. A typical scenario — a 5–10 day rental for a couple or one person who need an inexpensive, reliable and surprisingly roomy car for daily island outings.
Please note: child seats and accessories are not included in the rental price and are provided for an additional fee — please check availability when booking.

Exactly the right car for the island: nimble, frugal, parks anywhere. A week of beach trips cost around 700 baht in petrol.
Roomier inside than it looks. Two adults sat in the back all the way to Promthep without complaint, and two cases fitted in the boot.
The 1.2 engine works hard on the climb to Kata with a full car. With two or three on board it's absolutely fine.
My first rental and I was nervous about driving on the left. Small, simple car and a calm handover — by the end of day one I'd stopped thinking about it.
Took it for a month of daily driving. It worked out cheaper than a scooter plus taxis every time it rained.
Rented the Yaris for a week around the island — great fuel economy and easy to zip through Patong traffic.
