Mitsubishi Xpander

The Mitsubishi Xpander is a modern seven-seat family minivan from 2024. Three rows of seats with a folding third row, a high seating position with crossover-level ground clearance, a big boot and easy access for kids make the Xpander an excellent choice for a family holiday on the island. The petrol 1.5 with an automatic is economical — 6–7 litres per 100 km in mixed driving, noticeably cheaper to run than diesel rivals. The extra clearance confidently handles dirt turn-offs to remote beaches like Laem Sing, Banana Beach or Nai Thon and doesn't scrape on Phuket's road imperfections. Inside is a big multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control, a rear-view camera and parking sensors. Choose the Mitsubishi Xpander if you want a sensible option for a family of 4–6 on 7–14 days with a child seat and beach gear.

The Xpander neatly combines a minivan and a crossover: on one hand, three rows and seven seats for the family; on the other, a raised body and clearance that ordinary family vans lack. That opens up access to those very far beaches like Laem Sing and Nai Thon, reached by packed dirt tracks — where a low minivan scrapes its underside, the Xpander drives through calmly. And the petrol 1.5 runs quietly and costs less to run than diesel rivals.

Honestly about the performance: the naturally aspirated 1.5 is geared for economy, not urgency, so with a full cabin of passengers and luggage it ambles uphill, and highway overtakes should be planned with room to spare. As with other seven-seaters, the raised third row leaves almost no room for luggage — it's comfortable travelling five- or six-up with suitcases, or seven-up travelling light. On the plus side, the high seating position is handy for getting kids and older passengers in and out, and the camera with parking sensors makes parking the slightly bulky car easier in the tight city. The typical renter is a family of 4–6 who need a roomy, economical and moderately go-anywhere minivan for one or two weeks, for a child seat, beach gear and runs to quiet coves.
