The Honda City is a compact, economical sedan that renters love for its blend of comfort and low fuel use. The turbocharged 1.0 accelerates eagerly, and the CVT makes crawling through the traffic of Patong and Phuket Town smooth. A cabin that's roomy for the class, a big boot and good sound insulation — an excellent choice for a couple or small family for a week or more.
Don't be put off by the modest 1.0 capacity — the engine here is turbocharged, and in terms of pull it feels like a good 1.5-litre naturally aspirated unit. The City pulls away briskly, and on Highway 402 towards the airport it confidently gathers and holds 110 km/h, with overtakes taken calmly. On top of that, the little turbo engine is very economical: real-world consumption sits around 5 litres per 100 km, and over a week of active island touring you're unlikely to fill up more than a couple of times.
On space the City is a pleasant surprise for its class — the rear bench is genuinely roomy, adult passengers don't complain even on the long haul to Krabi, and the boot is one of the largest among compact sedans, easily swallowing two big suitcases. The expected limitation is the sedan's low ground clearance: it's best to drive around dirt tracks to wild beaches and deep puddles after a tropical downpour. The typical renter is a couple or small family who take the car for a week or more for its comfort, quiet and minimal fuel spend on daily beach and city driving.
Please note: child seats and accessories are not included in the rental price and are provided for an additional fee — please check availability when booking.
Reviews
The little turbo engine is livelier than expected and still returns about five litres per hundred. For daily island driving that combination is hard to beat.
Rear space is genuinely generous — two adults and a child sat behind without knees against seatbacks, and the boot is huge for the size of the car.
Two weeks driving from Mai Khao to Rawai most days. Nothing broke, nothing rattled, and the interior was properly clean when we got it.
Road noise above 100 km/h is noticeable. Beyond that there's very little to criticise, especially at this price point.
Delivered to our Patong hotel on time, clear contract, small deposit and no attempt to upsell extra insurance at the counter.
Drove it through the usual Chao Fa flooding after a storm. Stable, good brakes, and as a woman driving alone in a new country I felt genuinely safe in it.
